Supporting strong communities through neighbourhood projects is the focus of the City of Mandurah Council’s 2024/25 proposed budget.

Mayor Rhys Williams said the proposed 2024/25 budget was fiscally responsible, forward-looking and would deliver projects to benefit local communities both today and as part of the City’s rolling 10-year Long Term Financial Plan.

“The Long Term Financial Plan gives careful consideration to the fact that many in the community are facing cost of living challenges,” Mayor Williams said.

“We’ve got several neighbourhood projects in the pipeline such as redevelopment of the Dawesville Foreshore and the final phase of the Coodanup Foreshore, as well as reinvigorating many local parks in Greenfields and Coodanup areas. These sorts of projects are important community connectors, and provide free, family friendly places for the community to enjoy.

“We’re also completing the next phase of transforming the City Centre Waterfront with work to commence on the North and Central Eastern Foreshore within the first few weeks of June, as well as completing the community centre at Dawesville, which is an important project given the significant population growth happening in that area.

“Council has worked hard to develop this Long Term Financial Plan in line with our long-term goal of boosting investment in the maintenance of our assets. The reality is, with Mandurah’s growth over the past 20 years, we have seen unprecedented levels of investment in community infrastructure, now equating to more than $1.5 billion. Now, as the population growth begins to normalise, it is critical that we invest appropriately in maintaining our assets so that we can renew and replace them as required.

“This long-term planning means we avoid the dramatic fluctuations in household rates that many other local governments have had to implement in recent years, which is important.”

Council has adopted a 3.98 percent rate increase for advertising for the 2024/25 financial year and is encouraging the community to have their say via mandurahmatters.com.au by 20 June 2024.
